OBA Artists are Zooming!

It has taken us possibly longer than most to try out Zoom for a meeting opportunity. Mainly because, if you hadn’t noticed, we are artists not technical wizards. However, with the sparse amount of knowledge a few of us had and a lot of finger crossing we achieved a meeting last week.

As it was the first time many of us had seen each other since March 2019 as you can imagine a few minutes were spent saying hello to each other, asking about everyone’s health and generally checking we hadn’t all gone totally gaga in the last few difficult months! As it turns out we all seemed to be on our usual levels of gaga!

We soon got down to business and discussed such things as keeping our website up to date (one of the reasons this is being written), ensuring we were posting regularly on our social media and checking to see if anyone wanted any changes. We checked to see if all our members were still keen to continue the group. We artists get a lot from meeting with each other, discussing our methods, comparing styles, asking and giving advice and without that stimulous we were wondering if all of us would want to continue. I am pleased to report that all the group are firmly on board and raring to go once we can exhibit again.

Sadly we can’t plan anything firm just now, although we do have an exhibition booked for the West Barn in Bradford on Avon for 3rd-5th September which we are hoping will still be able to go ahead. However, Neale, who came up with the idea of exhibiting in a gallery in RADCO, Radstock had some brilliant thoughts. How about exhibiting in car parks, like an Art Car Boot Sale, or utilising local shop windows in Radstock both of which we all agreed were great ideas and he is looking into this for us all. We are also hoping that in 2022 we will be able to go ahead with our usual OBA Art Trail so there is that to look forward to.

It was lovely to actually SEE everyone, even if only virtually and we all agreed we will be doing it again in February, so watch this space. In the meantime, to whet your appetites we asked all members to send in photos of just what they have been up to during the last months and the first set of photos received have come from the inimitable Annie Davenport and will soon be shared amongst you via this website and on our Facebook page.

So never fear the OBA are still very much HERE!

I haven’t been doing any painting (when the weather turns into winter I have some I want to do). I have been doing lots of gardening and sewing. I thought I could sort out some photos of quilts for the website. We were just starting to come out of our shells and were rehearsing for the MSN arts festival (supposed to have been yesterday) when it all got locked down again. I miss seeing everyone and have ended up in a bubble where all the days seem to merge.!!!!!!!!!

I think a lot of us feel the same! – Caroline

Hi Caroline,

I’m ok thanks, hope you are too.

My starling pic is finished, I will attach it for you to this email. Hope its ok.

Went to West Bay last week and there were lots of starlings there, first time I have actually seen any in the flesh! Sadly with lockdown I’m not seeing as much of my mum as much as I would like, my sister is live in carer atm, I am also keeping busy learning french and am doing a pet first aid course to potentially start dog walking as a side hustle.

I’m still working and haven’t done much else in the way of painting.

Take care,

Janet Jackson

J – I think it’s about time we did some updating on the website. How about we change the front page a little, change the format of the images, move things around a bit.

C – I think that’s a great idea, would you like me to do that?

J – Can you do an email to the members asking them for more information so we can let people know what we are doing. We’ve spent a bit of time in our holiday home but I suppose we won’t be able to go for a while with the second lockdown.

C – Well we are all well here, both my kids are working thank goodness although I suspect they will get furloughed but my husband is busy with work and I’m doing lots of experiementing with watercolours. Oh and the dog keeps eating the furniture.

We actully said a lot more than this but we don’t want to bore you!

Hello Everyone

I cannot believe we are entering another lockdown.

Still, this Autumn we had a short holiday in Dorset giving me chance to make watercolour sketches and photographs.I was so pleased to see the sea once again.

I am also doing a Future Learn course on line so this will keep me busy for five weeks.

Everyone keep well, regards, Penny

Hi All,

For me art has been a blessing, in this covid time, am spending part of every day painting. We were lucky enough to holiday in the Gower before there lockdown, where I did a lot of sketching and painting.

Wishing everyone best for next year which we all hope will get better.

  All keep well
