My work is about ‘journey’. Each piece consists of many layers. The borders are the number of memories of a place or a journey. The rhythmic quality of the mark making refers to the lines on a seismograph or cardiogram, a life journey. The subject matter explores processional routes, or trackways, burial sites and significant points in landscapes such as Marker Trees or stones used as points of reference before maps became reliable. The background colour and content is the peripheral vision or background noise of the point of reference and this contains symbols such as mazes some of which are prayer walks or taken from ancient sites all pertain to ‘the journey’. Other symbols used, reference you the observer and the journey you embark upon when you engage with one of my pieces.
